Blood tests do help in some cases, especially for blood cancers like leukemia. Other ways that cancer can be detected include X-rays like those used in mammography and CAT scans. It is also possible to look inside the body with a camera, as in colonoscopy, used to detect colon cancer. Other ways that cancer is detected include biopsies and other imaging techniques including ultrasound and PET scans.

Usually, knowing whether a growth is cancerous is very important information and, unfortunately, sometimes only biopsies can provide that information.
Cancer cells CAN be ... By: CancerQuest. on 17 Oct 09, 15:57:44 Cancer cells CAN be found in the bloodstream. There are just not that many of them in relation to the blood cells. They are also large and tend to get stuck in smaller capillaries. The bloodstream is a dangerous place for a cancer cell because of oxygen levels, immune cells and the physical beating they take bumping into the walls of blood vessels.

By: ednolbed. on 24 Aug 10, 10:31:44 Harmony is an illusion, an accidental discovery of the human mind that's completely uncapable of accepting chaos and has the unstoppable urge to look for patterns and structures in complete randomness hoping that it will one day be able to control something that's a zillion times bigger than its own understanding. Western Harmony as we know it even is a perversion of the well-tuned scale (mathematically correct) in order to be able to transpose from one key to another.

That sounds promising. I'll check him out. I've had certain aspects of atonality grow on me lately, but Xenakis isn't my favorite composer. I like Penderecki, Messiaen, Gorecki, Morton Feldman, Schoenberg, and Stockhausen a bit better as far as that goes.

He studied directly under Schoenberg when he had just developed the 12 tone method, and he was often chided by his master for not fully abandoning tonality, but instead found a way to integrate principles from both. Give him a listen!

3D animation. Best viewed with anaglyph (red/green glasses). This animation shows the spread of cancer via blood vessels. In this case, the final destination is guided by signaling molecules that bind to the migrating cells. In the example shown, the signaling molecules are SDF-1 and the receptor is CXCR4. This is thought to occur in breast cancer and some other cancer types.

@vegetto456 I know ... By: LibertineDeSade. on 09 Aug 10, 23:45:10 @vegetto456 I know they work around the clock, but I believe you could be misinformed. Neurosurgeons make between 100,000 and 500,000 a year. I learned this from multiple sources, including a doctor and a med student friend of mine. Maybe it's a regional/national thing. I'm from the States so maybe if you're from out of the country it's different there.

Like the sound of rain falling on a hard surface, its one sound but its made up of hundreds of little individual sounds. He talks about it at the start of his book Formalized music.

People rightly get ... By: richtomes. on 04 Feb 09, 11:45:47 People rightly get annoyed when this kind of thing is held up as if it were somehow related to or equal to the great works of the 400 year old tradition of classical music. It belongs more appropriately with radical pop or jazz. The Jesus and Mary Chain for instance used to turn up all their amps and just have feedback for a whole 'song'. It was art of a kind. We should give this kind of stuff a new name - sonic theater, or sonic design, not to confuse it with the fine art of composition.

This invention comprises protein targets and early lead inhibitory compounds to prevent microtentacle formation for the prevention of metastasis. @abraxnos I have heard that biopsies create further problems, but how? What is the general "mechanism" that causes this?

@Llarky metastasis is a major difference between benign and malignant tumor, because the malignant tumors have this character.

Tumors like this one, that spread, are cancerous.
By: CancerQuest. on 27 Dec 09, 14:35:32
There are several ways to detect cancers, depending on the type and location. Blood tests do help in some cases, especially for blood cancers like leukemia. Other ways that cancer can be detected include X-rays like those used in mammography and CAT scans. It is also possible to look inside the body with a camera, as in colonoscopy, used to detect colon cancer. Other ways that cancer is detected include biopsies and other imaging techniques including ultrasound and PET scans.

so basicly the main way of finding cancer is through blood and urine tests? How else do they discover them other then seeing them on the outside (if they are on the outside)
By: FarhadTv. on 11 Dec 09, 11:19:00
This is a malignant tumor. Benign tumor are ones that are localised. They do not metastasis (spread around the body).
By: CancerQuest. on 21 Nov 09, 14:08:38
Growths that do not invade neighboring tissue or spread around the body are frequently benign. Those that invade or spread are malignant (cancerous). The metastasis video illustrates the movement of cells to different parts of the body and is therefore cancerous.

Is this tumor supposed to be benign or cancerous
By: LupusFang. on 03 Nov 09, 15:28:49

By: CancerQuest. on 17 Oct 09, 15:59:59
This is something that doctors and researchers are aware of. It does happen, but it seems to be fairly rare. As with anymedical procedure, there it is important for patients to do a cost-benefit analysis. Usually, knowing whether a growth is cancerous is very important information and, unfortunately, sometimes only biopsies can provide that information.
By: CancerQuest. on 17 Oct 09, 15:57:44
Cancer cells CAN be found in the bloodstream. There are just not that many of them in relation to the blood cells. They are also large and tend to get stuck in smaller capillaries. The bloodstream is a dangerous place for a cancer cell because of oxygen levels, immune cells and the physical beating they take bumping into the walls of blood vessels. You CAN get cancer on your fingers and toes. Skin cancer and other cancers, like sarcoma, can occur in there. It is just not as common.
By: anbh08. on 14 Oct 09, 20:22:54
Then why aren't cancer cells found in the blood stream? Why don't we get cancer in our toes or fingers etc?
By: abraxnos. on 07 Sep 09, 04:54:45
this is a reason why biopsies can Create further problems
