It's the standard treatment for CML now and is effective in most cases. I'm told that many have been taking it for 10-15 years and enjoying healthy lives. The video is out of date in this respect.

We have 7 children & never thought any of them would be diagnosed with cancer. It never entered our thoughts. Than on August 1st 2005, to our horror, the unthinkable happened to one of our beautiful children, Zoe. It has been an emtional rollercoaster to say the least. She went through 2 1/2 years of chemotherapy & is in remission. Praise the Lord!!

He probably isn't old enough to do this, but a little tip that works really well for me is if you drink water through a straw while they push the tube down. Katie is doing great! She has just finished 7th grade. She has remained cancer free and we are very greatful. She recovered well from her back surgery in November of last year. She continues to have issues with her spine and does appear to have a disabled walk, but she walks and she thrives. We are happy for her! she is a busy teen and has a facebook page. She was voted president of ASB for the 2010/2011 school year!

They tried the first one with me awak, but the pain was too unbearable. Since then I have anaesthetic or I couldn't manage it. If you are an adult with leaukemia and need a bone marrow apsiration please request anaesthetic even though it isn't protocol. You oncologist should allow this and it makes the proceedure must less traumatic. Austin is so strong and more brave than me after the aspiration.

My father has chronic monocytic leukemia - does anyone know where I can find more information about his illness? It seems that there is little published on it and it comes from unknown origins (he hasn't had exposure to benzene). He has DNA mutation from it but not the Philadephia chromosome (he can't take Gleeve).

@chris7707s Thankyou for your kind worlds of encouragement. She has started taking a oral chemo drug which is making very sick but from the tests it seems to be helping. Fingers crossed! I will look into the Gleevec as it sounds like a promising option! I just hope its available in the UK! God bless you and I wish you all the best! x

Gleevec or imatinib is what I'm being treated with now after being diagnosed earlier this months. It's the standard treatment for CML now and is effective in most cases. I'm told that many have been taking it for 10-15 years and enjoying healthy lives. The video is out of date in this respect.

@Candlebaby25 i've had cml for 5 yrs now ! i survived this long because of an oral pill i take each day. the treatment is called gleevec it gives you extra time by stopping the growth of extra white blood cells ! will be recieveing a bone marrow transplant in june!! ask your doctor about it!! good luck ,much srength, and god speed:)

I agree, very good info up until treatment options. Glivec has been working out very good for me, it's been three years since diagnosis and i'm in remission now. SlayerSa1nt: sorry to hear you're not responding ok to glivec, wish you good luck with alternatives.

Yeah I have this disease.. I was on Gleevec for a bit, didn't work.. trying out sprycel.. wish me luck. Just had a bone marrow asperation yesterday. Last test to determine if I need a doner :/

Gives a very good demonstration of how CML forms and acts but as for the reatment options, we've come along away. In the United Kingdom it's very rare for patients to be treated with Chemotherapy or radition therapy for this Leukemia. Having CML Myself I know it responds very well to new Tyrone Kinase Inhibitors I.E Gleevec, Sprycel or Tasigna. I think this video may have been made before these options became available to CML patients
