Apocalyptica is a particular band, some people say they are a Symphonic Metal band, but I don't really agree, I'd rather to say they are a Classical Rock/Metal band (Symphonic Metal is like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation,...). They use classical instrument and they do a "rockish/metalish" music with, so for me it's a Classical Rock/Metal band.
