IBC victims are much more likely to die than "lump" type breast cancers. What I would recommend to anyone diagnosed with an "infection or mastitis" is to get a second opinion -quickly. It is beatable if caught early and attacked aggressively. Do not allow substandard treatment. This is life or death for you and your family, do not be afraid of hurting feelings.

If you drain the blood of most tissues they will become white. If a fungus were to blame, it would be very easy to prove, since you could grow the fungus in Petri dishes and isolate it from the human cells. One last point; cancer does not appear black on an x-ray. It absorbs more x-rays in the same way as bone, so appears lighter.
